The most competitive universities in Nigeria that are tough in admission offer: Apparently, gaining admission into any university in Nigeria is not an easy task. Over the year, I have noticed that it is only students who are very sound in academics can gain admission into any university in Nigeria. The reason for this is because every university wants to make sure that they admit students who are both mentally and academically capable of facing the ups and downs associated with living a good university life.

What really are competitive Universities? Competitive Universities are those universities with almost life made easy facilities that everyone wants to gain admission into. As you may have guessed, These schools Usually have large number of applicants every year and at such difficult to gain admission into.

 

Apart from the known fact that these schools are strict in their cut off point and admission process, there is a pride you have when you study in any of them. A student of the University of Lagos will be proud to boast that, “I AM A UNILAG STUDENT”. No doubt everyone want to study in a school where they’ll be pride in.

There are only few universities in Nigeria where you can gain admission without much stress. My point here is, as long as its tough to gain admission into Nigerian universities, Some are even more competitive to gain admission into and that’s our attention today.

The basic reason why the universities mentioned above are most competitive is because they have very high number of aspirants. Thus, the university are even looking for ways and little mistake to disqualify students. One of the mistakes many students make is to apply for admission in those universities in Nigeria,knowing they’re don’t even meet the requirements needed by this universities. Well, there is nothing wrong applying for admission in schools like UNN, UI, UNILAG or OAU. But the truth is that if you don’t meet their requirements or you are not very sound academically, then you can’t gain admission into those schools. So, if you are not good enough, why don’t you apply for a school that will give you admission easily.

Another reason why it is tough to gain admission into these schools I just mentioned is because, their cutoff marks are way just too high. Thus, students with low cut off will not even be advised to purchase the post utme screening form talk less of gaining admission via the university’s merit list. In my view, these are the best universities for students who are Academically sound or those who have very good basic results and meet above average Cut off Marks.

University Of Ibadan (UI) :

It is pertinent to note that this university is a federal university so they accept application from every part of Nigeria.

In fact, last year (2020) while other universities did not conduct Post UTME examination for aspirants before giving them admission, University Of Ilorin (UNILORIN) conducted screening for aspirants. They only gave admission based on the JAMB results and WAEC/NECO and your Post UTME Results as acquired by aspirants. The University of Nigeria Nsukka is a federal university in Enugu State, Nigeria. Known as UNN, it was founded by Nnamdi Azikiwe (Governor General of Nigeria from 1960 to 1963 and first President of Nigeria from 1963 to 1966) in 1955 and formally opened in 1960.

UNN operates 102 academic departments across 15 faculties and offers 82 undergraduate programmes and 211 postgraduate programmes for a student population over 36,000. It does so across four campuses: Nsukka; Enugu campus (UNEC); University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), in Ituku-Ozalla and the University of Nigeria Aba campus (UNAC). There is also a UNN Business School.

I personally recommend this university for every student. It is a federal university so you don’t need to panic on the issue as to whether the university will admit you considering the state you are coming from. All you need to do is to apply and do your best in JAMB UTME screening. I assure you that you will be offered admission into this school.

Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO)

Location: Oweri, IMO State, Nigeria

Founded in 1980, Federal University of Technology, Owerri is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Owerri (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Imo. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the National Universities Commission, Nigeria, Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) is a coeducational higher education institution. Founded in 1975, the University of Port Harcourt, fondly called ‘UNIPORT’ is a second generation University with over 40,000 students and a strong focus in Petroleum Engineering. Formerly regarded as a University College, UNIPORT attained its University status in 1977 and is currently ranked amongst the top ten Universities in the Country. The University has recorded some groundbreaking achievements, one of such is its recognition as being the first University to train the first set of nuclear engineers in Nigeria. The University also won a grant from the world bank to build a centre of excellence in oilfield chemicals and is noted as one of the best institutions in Nigeria, involved in the study of business ethics and indigenous entrepreneurship development.

Currently, University Of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is one of the most competitive universities in Nigeria that doesn’t gives admission easily. I am sure that this university will soon become a “hard-to-get” university because of the efforts of the university’s management towards the growth of the university. However, for now, i can say that this university is an ideal university for students who surpass and meet above the required cutoff marks for their courses in any of the competitive universities in Nigeria.

  1. UNILAG is really Competitive, can you imagine last year, I scored 275 in jamb and passed their post UTME still they did not give me admission ?
