The system has been used to help improve mail delivery efficiency and make it easier for customers to find their addresses when sending mail. For example, if you know someone’s postal code, you can enter it into an online database and find out where they live.

Postal codes were also introduced because Puerto Rico has more than 100 municipalities — which means there are many different names for streets or other locations within each municipality. This can be confusing for people trying to find specific addresses and businesses.

Conclusion

Code postal serves as a better way to communicate in Puerto Rico than phone calling. Someone can take an address and knows where it is located if they have any doubts. The previous example is a smaller example, but imagine if an entire county had a generic address, it will be very hard to understand which property you are speaking about. The purpose of adding that extra detail code postal was for people to know exactly where the property was located at instead of using the ambiguous general outdated addresses.
