As a member of the IT industry, it’s important to have an understanding of modern computer technologies. Comptia is an international IT professional certification which has been around for more than 20 years and provides candidates with all the skills they need to start a career in technology. It’s not just about getting certified; it’s about learning new skills and preparing yourself for the future.

The certification focuses on four core areas. First, you’ll be introduced to operating systems and how they interact with hardware and software. You’ll learn about networking, the internet and protection of data. Coursework also covers installation, configuration and maintenance of hardware. Next, you’ll learn about security as a whole including firewalls, antivirus programs and user access control. The final core area is project management, a critical component of successful business.

Most IT companies use Comptia as the standard for computer training. The four areas of expertise makes it easy for employers to identify the skills of candidates who are certified in the program. Once you are certified, you’ll be eligible for jobs in areas such as data entry, network administration, web design and programming.

The exam itself consists of 220 questions which need to be completed within 3 hours and 15 minutes. The test covers all of the core areas mentioned above and is broken down into sections by area with a minimum score of 700 required in each section. Overall, you can expect to earn a score ranging from 700 to 900 on the exam.

Getting certified isn’t easy. The coursework and study materials are available online but they don’t provide everything you need to pass the security+ sy0-601 practice test. You’ll need to set aside time to work on the exam and to study. You can expect to spend anywhere from 5,000 hours studying the material up to a year.
